Is Surgery A Must For Anal Fissure?

Anal Fissure is a very painful anal condition. It starts suddenly after an incidence of passing very hard stool or dysentery. Once formed, one may experience pain and burning sensation in anus which is further exaggerated with subsequent defecations and may persist for hours after. Bleeding is not a major complaint for anal fissure but pain is really disturbing. The patient cannot sit or drive properly because of pain and subsequently starts avoiding sitting. The people around keeps on asking about the reason of not sitting properly which is very embarrassing. Bleeding is though not a major complaint in anal fissure, but it is not uncommon. There may be streaks of blood in stool which often frighten the patient.

The treatment of anal fissure should always be started in the initial stage, as I must say, as soon as you experience pain and burning sensation in anus. In early stage, some very simple lifestyle modifications and Ayurvedic medicines can cure this disease. Surgery is seldom required. Once you start ignoring the initial symptoms or have self medications, the fissure becomes chronic for which surgery sometimes becomes inevitable.
